Where it all started…

COLOGNE

The first thing to do in Cologne is get some chocolate from the famous Chocolate Museum and then hop on the giant ferris wheel right next door for the best views of the city! Up on top of the ferris wheel overlooking the Rhine River, we got our first view of the famous cathedral, and beautiful skyline. Then once I spotted the cathedral, I knew what direction to walk in and headed through town for a better look up close. Photos really can’t do justice to just how huge and breathtaking the cathedral is… Definitely recommend going inside and if you’re up for walking up hundreds of stairs to get to the top, it’s totally worth it for the view!

Right outside the cathedral, there stands the old Roman gateway to the city of Koln. This is one of the oldest cities in Europe, as Cologne used to be an old Roman colony, which is how it got its name. Cologne cathedral was the site of an epic tank battle during World War Two, right outside on its steps between the Allies and the Germans, and the cathedral itself was heavily bombed, but survived the war. The history of this city is amazing, and the people who live here are incredible

After dinner, definitely cross the bridge to the other side of the Rhine for a great sunset. It helps if you bring a couple glasses and a good bottle of wine… It’s very peaceful to sit there with all the people on the river, and then cross back and enjoy the nightlife. And there is a nightlife in Cologne. I highly recommend trying the beef stroganoff at a good German restaurant to start off the night!
